These are 2011 numbers.  Also the deductibles are much higher than the county plan deductibles.

  1. I would expect the 2011 prices to have increased significantly due to Obamacare. Most premiums have. You could look at trh.com for comparable plans to the 2011 study. I think the enhanced choice would be close with a $3k deductible and $40 copay for office visits. It is currently $270 per month for a 45-y.o. individual in Blount Co. This is a United Healthcare plan and a little different from the Blue Cross ones in that there is no tiered pricing for “preferred” status. I find that employer group plans tend to pay the very highest price in the tiered plans for every employee, regardless of their status. Which translates to the employer paying much, much more for your benefits. I.e., they may cover 70% of your premium as your “benefits”, but since they pay the very highest premium price, your 30% portion costs almost as much as purchasing the plan on your own. It is a real racket.
