Tennessee County Services Association tells local elected officials to support gas tax increase

The Tennessee County Services Association (TCSA) sends local elected officials a newsletter, called Capitol Update, while the Tennessee General Assembly is in session.  The TCSA failed to mention the purchasing secrecy legislation in the six issues that it sent to me in 2016.  When I asked TCSA Executive Director David Connor why he didn’t include bills that made an open process a secret government process he wrote, “Since it was mirroring the process used at the state, I didn’t see a problem with it.”  Two wrongs apparently make a right.

This year the TCSA has sent newsletter with a headline telling local officials to call their state lawmakers and tell them to support the gas tax increase included in the slyly named IMPROVE act.  TCSA seem more interested in telling local officials what to do rather than keeping them informed of legislation that creates local government secrecy.  Is the tail wagging the dog?

  1. We are all suffering and this millionaire rich governor wants to make us suffer a little more. If he was truly telling the truth, he knows good and well that we aren’t going to have a wash out with groceries. The lying robo call I got today said that I’d save 20% on groceries. What a crock!

We don’t need a gas tax increase. Notice that the governor has stopped road improvements to make us think they need more money. Anyone understand how many billions we are over in the TN government and how many billions we have in the rainy day fund? Use some of that governor, don’t bleed your own people who have been suffering for a decade or more.

Damned politicians are never pleased unless they can bleed the people dry.

  2. “The savings netted the bill ‘tax cut’ status by a prominent national conservative group, effectively letting lawmakers who signed an oath not to raise taxes off the hook for supporting this measure.”

Why would lawmakers that signed an oath not to raise taxes need to be “let off the hook” for an alleged tax cut? Can the lies be any more blatant than that?

Just look at their projected revenue increases. If any county had an actual tax cut, all 95 of them wouldn’t show tax revenue increases in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

  3. The bottom line is that we have a pandemic condition in all levels of government in America, and it’s called GREED – the insatiable love of money! 1 Timothy 6:9 … But those who crave to be rich fall into temptation and a snare and into many foolish (useless, godless) and hurtful desires that plunge men into ruin {and} destruction and miserable perishing.
1 Timothy 6:10 … For the love of money is a root of all evils; it is through this craving that some have been led astray {and} have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves through with many acute [mental] pangs. (Amplified Bible) Luke 16:11 … If, then, you have not been faithful in handling worldly wealth, how can you be trusted with true wealth?
Luke 16:12 … And if you have not been faithful with what belongs to someone else, who will give you what belongs to you?
Luke 16:13 … “No servant can be the slave of two masters; such a slave will hate one and love the other or will be loyal to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” GNB
There is a desperate need to “pray for all in authority” … 1Ti 2:1 First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, requests, and thanksgivings be offered to God for all people; 1Ti 2:2 for kings and all others who are in authority, that we may live a quiet and peaceful life with all reverence toward God and with proper conduct. GNB We should then put some “feet to those prayers” with public action to keep our legislator’s feet to the fire, if you will … to let them know that they need to be servants of “we the people” and not be self-serving, greedy career politicians! We should not be used and abused as ATM taxpayer machines. Amen?

  4. Don’t worry, y’all. All “alternative transportation” projects were canned immediately in Tennessee, the last tyme Exxon-Mobil raped us at the gasoline pumps; citing that all alternative forms of transportation were merely conspiracies by FEMA to haul us into concentration camps. So, after we’re squeezed into submission by taxes and oil company profits again, your options will be … nothing at all.

Secondly, don’t underestimate the value of well-heeled priorities in East TN. Even though the cost of asphalt concrete has increased 10X over the last decade, some folks’ desire for an Interstate connection to a local mover-and-shaker’s family owned golf course, by far, outweighs any whining the financially strapped may be concerned with.

You get, what you vote for …

Conservative only means conservative, when it’s convenient!
